Roope Pyykönen is a multidisciplinary artist based in Helsinki, working primarily with oil painting alongside occcailonal sculpure and other material based processes.

His practice moves between observation, memory, emotion, dreams, and lived experience. Many works begin from something that resists immediate understanding and gradually take shape through the process of making.

Painting functions both as a way of thinking and a way of staying with questions that do not easily resolve. Through layering, reworking, and material exploration, images emerge, dissolve, and transform, while surfaces slowly acquire a sense of age and presence.

Pyykönen is currently studying at Vapaa Taidekoulu in Helsinki, after five years of self-directed study. He is actively working in his studio in Punavuori. Pyykönen has participated in group exhibitions including Between Us at the University of the Arts Helsinki and exhibitions at Galleria Vaaga. Passing the Edge is his first solo exhibition, which he has also curated himself.
